Project Description

Manoa Heritage Center is a “living” classroom fostering learning and understanding of Hawaii’s natural and cultural heritage. Inatsuka Engineering provided the mechanical engineering design services for the brand new LEED-certified Visitor Education Hale.

The building program included an Administration/Reception building, restrooms, Multi-Purpose Room and Accessory Building. Services included exhaust ventilation systems for the restrooms and Maintenance Garage. Air conditioning and ventilation for the Admi/Reception Building and Multi-Purpose Building and plumbing system design.

Project Description

The Department of Hawaiian Homelands is seeking to develop a 26,000 sf, two-story Community Center along the Kona Coast on the island of Hawaii. The first phase of the project will include a Medical Center and Dental Clinic and the second phase is scheduled to include a partial second story for administration, an area for family practice, reception and outreach.

Mechanical Design Services Included:

Exhaust ventilation for utility rooms, restrooms, service area and kitchens.

Fire sprinkler system.
Generator fuel storage.

Nanakuli Public Library

Project Description

Design a 18,000 sf library in Nanakuli, adjacent to Nanaikapono Elementary School. The building will seek LEED certification for New Buildings.

Key Elements Include:

Variable refrigerant air conditioning system for energy efficient operation
Dedicated outside air unite for humidity control
Ultra-efficient plumbing fixtures
Daylight harvesting for indoor environmental quality

The challenge was to build a facility that satisfied the needs of the community while remaining on budget. The result was a building design that meets the budget, accommodates the community’s highest priorities, and strives for a high-performance building.

Project Description

The new cafeteria for the Waipahu Intermediate School is the first project for the Department of Education to achieve a LEED rating (Certified). The design includes a kitchen, faculty dining room, restrooms and an open dining hall that was designed to introduce daylighting and be as thermally comfortable as possible using passive ventilation.

The cafeteria utilizes both cross ventilation and the stack effect from a thermal chimney designed into the roof assembly. Daylighting is introduced through clerestory windows at the highest point of the roof assembly.
